How good is the audio quality compared to the original RCD320
It's wrong to compare with RCD320, rather compare it with RCD330/340 which is equipped with a display. It's feature rich compared to 330/340 with wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, reverse cam working out of box (no coding required), dashcam capabilities, bluetooth based TPMS can also be used directly with this stereo.

Is this compatible with 2013 model Polo GT TDI? I have the old circular horn type steering wheel, will the steering controls work without any wire cutting etc?

Yes it's compatible with your Polo (Polo 2010-2021).
It will work with your steering controls, settings has "button mapping" option to teach correct mapping. No wire cut involved.
Grab the license plate bracket camera (or flip lid if you fancy) with the stereo.
Delay timer and adapters are NOT required with this android based stereo.
